This years tournament, hosted at the Japanese Association Sports Complex saw
11 teams from the Cosmo league and guest team "Hibernians" compete head to
head for the right to carry off the prestigious Windmill Cup Trophy. The
teams were scheduled in two groups of 6 teams, playing group matches in the
morning and the ranking, play off and finals scheduled to be played in the
afternoon. The first game kicked of at 08.30 AM and soon all teams enjoyed
the true tournament spirit.
The Hollandse Club had set up their famous F&B stand, there were plenty of
beverages on this hot day, a party tent was installed for the participating
teams and the little supporters enjoyed themselves in the bouncing castle.
After the group matches teams apprciated their lunch at the F&B stand and
were getting ready for the all important ranking and finals.
Playing in a tropical country, you can never predict the wheather and very
unfortunate during lunchtime it started to rain cats and dogs. The
groundsman of the JAS complex had to call off all remaining matches and the
winners had to be concluded in a penalty shoot out.
In the final the French team beat the Italian team by 4-1 thanks to the
French incredible goal keeper who saved three penalty's.
Since the tournament is traditionally played on the day of the English FA
cup final, this years date was no different and in the evening all teams
headed back to Hollandse Clubhouse to relax, sit back and be a part of the
Awards ceremony and watched a cracking English FA cup final between two of
the English premiership's bitterest rivals Manchester United v Arsenal . The
teams thoroughly enjoyed the evening program and sampled quite some jugs
with their favourite "soccer drink" .
A big thanks to our mainsponsor ALLIED PICKFORDS, subsponsor Hollandse Club
and our team sponsors Fortis Bank, Van Oord and Heineken.
